Public Restrooms

Infrastructure
Upper West Side, NYC

Standard procedure when using a public restroom is to leave as quickly as possible. But this prototype is an infrastructural spectacle that engages its audience. Transparent filters, tanks, and drains flail out the sides of colorful walls, allowing the public to observe plumbing in action. The circular plugs in the facade contain interactive tubes for music and play, so the exterior becomes a miniature stage set. Swiveling dampers inside each plug not only ventilate the restrooms, they also allow occupants to catch glimpses of their audience.
