Rebuilding Japan

History Research

In merely two decades after the Second World War, Japan went from a poor empire of peasants and fishermen to an economic superpower. How did the Japanese people re-invent themselves so quickly, so effectively? These books try to answer that question, exploring a broad range of Japan’s economic, political, and urban decisions throughout the twentieth century. They are hand-bound with wax thread, and contained in a custom wooden casing.

Written and designed in collaboration with Xiao XiaoXue and Boer Deng
